Xylitol is a natural sweetener found in some vegetables and fruit. It looks like sugar and tastes like sugar, but it's not sugar! You can use 1 tsp of xylitol as a 1 tsp of sugar equivalent. By comparison sugar has 4 calories per gram, whereas xylitol is only 2.4 calories per gram. Use this sweetener in your baking, tea and coffee, and pretty much everything else that you'd like to add a bit of sweetness to (but probably won't work on your boss).
P.S. Xylitol, while perfectly harmless to humans, is actually toxic to dogs, so please be cautious when using this sweetener around them. I love dogs and I love Xylitol, but sometimes in life you have two friends that should never meet!
